India is looking to buy the anti-viral medicine from several countries, including Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has offered emergency medicines and medical equipment to India to fight the COVID pandemic, a press release issued by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.

“In view of the rapidly deteriorating Corona situation in India, the Government of Bangladesh has offered to dispatch on emergency basis medicines and medical equipment for the people of India who are fighting the pandemic across the country,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

These include approximately 10,000 vials of injectable anti-viral, oral anti-viral, 30,000 PPE kits, and several thousands zinc, calcium, vitamin C and other necessary tablets, it added.

Expressing deep sorrow and condolences at the loss of lives in India due to the spread of the COVID pandemic, the MOFA said Bangladesh stands in solidarity with close neighbor India at this critical moment and is ready to provide and mobilise support in every possible way to save lives.

“The thoughts and prayers of the people of Bangladesh are with the people of India for alleviating their sufferings. Bangladesh is interested to provide further support to India, if needed,” it added.

Responding to Bangladesh’s solidarity and support to New Delhi for fighting the pandemic, the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh in a tweet on Thursday thanked Dhaka for the solidarity and support extended as India fights the pandemic.

“Thank you @MOFA_Dhaka for expressing solidarity of #Bangladesh with #India and for support extended as #IndiaFightsCorona Confident #IndiaBangladesh friendship will help us all overcome #Covid19 together,” the High Commission tweeted.

Meanwhile, Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla in a Special Media Briefing on Thursday had said, 40 countries have come forward to offer assistance to India to help in view of the unprecedented situation.

Shringla said India is looking at procuring 400,000 units of Remdesivir medicine from Egypt besides exploring to get it from countries like the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan.
