Prince Philip passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle on Friday morning, Buckingham Palace said

Condoling the demise of UK's Prince Philip, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed him for his distinguished military career and his community service activities.

"My thoughts are with the British people and the Royal Family on the passing away of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh," Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet.

"He had a distinguished career in the military and was at the forefront of many community service initiatives. May his soul rest in peace," PM Modi added.

Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and the Duke of Edinburgh, died on Friday. He was 99.
