The conversation took place on a day that Quad members held their third foreign minister-level meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison on Thursday and said he looked forward to working together for peace, prosperity and security in the Indo-Pacific. During the telephone call, the two leaders also reiterated their commitment to consolidating the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Australia.

"Spoke with my good friend PM @ScottMorrisonMP today. Reiterated our commitment to consolidating our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Also discussed regional issues of common interest. Look forward to working together for peace, prosperity and security in the Indo-Pacific," PM Modi tweeted after the call.

The conversation took place on a day that Quad members India, Australia, Japan and the US held their third foreign minister-level meeting. The ministers discussed contemporary challenges, including the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in the world.

The foreign ministers' meet sought to take forward the momentum generated during the discussions held in Tokyo in October last year.

India and Australia share a common vision on many issues of global and regional interest, including the Indo-Pacific. During a summit in July last year, Prime Minister Modi and PM Morrison had decided to upgrade ties between the two countries to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The two Prime Ministers also share a warm personal rapport. Following India's Test series victory against Australia last month, Morrison took to Twitter to congratulate PM Modi and the Indian cricket team on a "great win".

Prime Minister Modi thanked him and responded saying,"India and Australia make for formidable competitors on the field, and solid partners off it".
