The two countries have maintained high-level exchanges during 2020 despite COVID-19

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a virtual summit with the Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 21.

The two leaders will exchange views on wide-ranging bilateral, regional and global issues. They will also provide guidance for the future development of the India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement announcing the summit.

The two countries have maintained high-level exchanges during 2020, the MEA pointed out.

Vietnam Vice-President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh visited India in February on an official visit.

The Prime Ministers of India and Vietnam had a telephone conversation on April 13 to discuss the situation arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 17th edition of the Joint Commission Meeting co-chaired by the two Foreign Ministers was held virtually on August 25.

The most recent interaction between the two sides was on November 27, when Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held an online meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart, the MEA statement noted.
