The reply came hours after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s statement on farmers’ protest

Terming the Canadian Prime Minister’s statement on the farmers’ protest as ‘ill-informed,’ India on Tuesday hit back at Justin Trudeau for his remarks, saying such comments are unwarranted, especially when pertaining to the internal affairs of a democratic country.

In a strong rebuttal, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said that it is India’s internal matter which is a democratic country.

“We have seen some ill-informed comments by Canadian leaders relating to farmers in India. Such comments are unwarranted, especially when pertaining to the internal affairs of a democratic country,” Srivastava said.

“It is also best that diplomatic conversations are not misrepresented for political purposes,” he said in response to a media query on comments by the Canadian Prime Minister’s statement.

The reply came hours after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau showed concerns over the farmers’ protest.
