Prime Minister Narendra Modi was reacting to terror attacks in Paris and Nice

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in France, including today's heinous attack inside a church in Nice.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said on Thursday, "I strongly condemn the recent terrorist attacks in France, including today's heinous attack in Nice inside a church. Our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the people of France. India stands with France in the fight against terrorism."

A woman was beheaded and two others were killed inside a church in Nice on Thursday by an attacker armed with a knife amid growing concern within France and outside over the rise of radical Islam.

A French school teacher, Samuel Paty, had been beheaded by his Chechen student in Paris on October 16.

On Wednesday, India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had come out with a strongly worded statement condemning the personal attacks against French President Emmanuel Macron.

“We strongly deplore the personal attacks in unacceptable language on President Emmanuel Macron in violation of the most basic standards of international discourse,” the ministry said in its statement.

The reaction came after the French President was attacked by Pakistan and Turkey for his comments following the beheading of the school teacher.

The MEA had said, "We also condemn the brutal terrorist attack that took the life of a French teacher in a gruesome manner that has shocked the world. We offer our condolences to his family and the people of France.”

According to the MEA statement, there was "no justification for terrorism for any reason or under any circumstance”.

Media reports had earlier quoted Macron as saying, “We will continue… We will defend the freedom that you taught so well and we will bring secularism”. He went on to add that France would “not give up cartoons, drawings, even if others back down.”
