The US Deputy Secretary of State’s visit will lay groundwork for the third edition of two-plus-two dialogue between the two countries.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday held talks with visiting US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun on bilateral, regional and key global issues with a focus on the common vision of the two countries for the Indo-Pacific region.

Tweeting about their meeting the External Affairs Minister said, “Pleased to meet US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun. Useful exchange of views on world politics and regional issues. Appreciated the steady progress of our bilateral cooperation. Confident that our Strategic Partnership would continue to deepen.”



The New Delhi-based US embassy twitted: “Deputy Secretary Biegun & External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar exchanged views on key regional and global issues impacting Indo-Pacific priorities.”

The US Deputy Secretary of State landed in New Delhi on a three-day visit to finalise the groundwork for the third edition of two-plus-two dialogue between the two countries later this month.

The US Deputy Secretary of State will also visit Bangladesh to discuss a free, open, inclusive, peaceful, and secure Indo-Pacific region with shared prosperity for all.

The United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defence Secretary Mark Esper will be visiting India to attend the 2+2 dialogue between the two nations in New Delhi on October 26 and October 27 and will discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral ties.

Pompeo and Esper will be meeting their counterparts, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh respectively.
