Sewa volunteers have distributed essential items to vulnerable populations in cities across the Bay Area of the US

In an unprecedented charity effort, Sewa International, a leading Hindu faith-based Indian American nonprofit organization, donated $1 million worth of supplies to Coronavirus-affected families and wildfire victims in Northern California, United States.

In coordination with local organisations in the true spirit of “Together we serve better”, Sewa International Bay Area Chapter helped approximately 20,000 families across Northern California by distributing essential supplies such as fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, and groceries valued around one million dollars. The organisation also provided financial help of $3,00,000 to families affected by the pandemic.

Sewa volunteers have distributed more than 200,000 pounds of essential items to vulnerable populations by organizing donation drives and give-away events in cities across the Bay Area, including San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Hayward, Livermore, Concow, Oroville, and Santa Cruz. Over the past six months, 90 Sewa volunteers have spent 15,000 hours serving people affected by the pandemic and California wildfires.

On October 3, Sewa conducted a donation drive to help more than 200 families affected by the pandemic and the wildfires in Santa Clara. Sanitizers and other hygiene products along with more than 200 boxes of fruits and vegetables were distributed on that day, apart from food, essential supplies and monetary donations to low-income families, homeless, wildfire victims and poor children.

During the recent food drives by Sewa International in the Bay area, almost 5,000 lbs. of fresh fruits and other groceries, hygiene products, batteries, cleaning supplies, diapers, hot food, gift cards for 700+ 200 boxes (4,000 lbs.) of canned groceries and fresh fruits and vegetables were distributed.

Apart from this, Sewa International Bay Area Chapter has donated close to 100,000 KN95, N95, surgical masks, FEMA masks, and face shields to beneficiary institutes including the United States Postal Service, Valley Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, San Ramon Police Department, City of Sunnyvale, and the City of Cupertino, San Quentin State Prison, and many others.

Almost $300,000 have been donated to close to 700 households and 238 children, by Sewa International. These are deserving families who have been financially impacted and challenged by the COVID-19 situation in Santa Clara County.

With more than 2,500 volunteers across 43 chapters and in collaboration with over 800 organizations across the country, Sewa International has committed to supporting all essential workers and service industries in these trying times.
