The campaign recognizes their contributions and tries to attract more women to work in UN missions

The United Nations has featured two Indian women in a special video campaign which seeks to profile women in peacekeeping missions and special political missions.

According to a report by The Print, the campaign called ‘Peace is My Mission’ was launched on October 1 in the run up to the 20th anniversary of the UN Security Council resolution 1325 on October 31. It features Indian police officer Ragini Kumari and human rights professional Huma Khan amongst nine other women from different countries.

Ragini Kumari was the assessment team leader of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan till June 2020. I feel more and more women should come to work for women in conflict zones,” she was quoted saying by The Print.

An experienced human rights professional who is a senior women protection officer at the UN mission, Huma Khan started her tenure in South Sudan in February 2018, the report said.

The United Nations in an official statement said the campaign was launched in support of the secretary-general’s System-wide Gender Parity and Uniformed Gender Parity Strategies, and is a collaboration between the United Nations Department of Global Communications (DGC), Department of Peace Operations (DPO) and Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA).

The objective is to ensure that the uniformed component of UN peacekeeping is diverse and inclusive of women, reflecting the communities served by the UN, the report said. It also aims to promote meaningful participation and work of women, both uniformed and civilian personnel, in the UN peacekeeping and special political missions.

Furthermore, the campaign recognizes and raises awareness of their contributions and attracts more women to work in UN missions around the world, the report said.
