US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the coronavirus disease

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday wished his “friend” Donald Trump, the US President and his wife Melania Trump “a quick recovery and good health” after the couple tested positive for the Covid-19.

Earlier, President Donald Trump broke the news on Twitter today, saying they will be going into quarantine. He wrote, “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this together!”

Donald Trump’s physician Sean Conley released a statement saying that, “I appreciate the support provided by some of our country’s greatest medical professionals and institutions.

He informed that President Trump and the First Lady are “both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.”

“Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out duties without disruption while recovering,” Conley said in a statement.

Just a few hours earlier, Donald Trump’s Senior Advisor, Hope Hicks was also tested positive for the Coronavirus. Hicks, due to her position, was in regular close contact with the President and the First Lady.

Donald Trump in an earlier tweet had written, “Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!”

The US President has tested positive at the time when he is trying desperately to convince the American people that the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic is behind them, even as cases related to the deadly disease continue to surge up.

According to the US’s Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), till September 27, Covid-19 cases were trending upward in 26 states, especially in the West and the Central parts of the US. In the last week, 6 states reported more than 10,000 new cases.

The US health institute further said that the increase in the Covid-19 pandemic varies by urbanization. Over the last 7 days, the Covid-19 case rates in rural counties were 20 per 100,000 people compared to 10 per 100,000 people in large metro counties.
