Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed India’s commitment towards battling the pandemic at the historic 75th UNGA

The World Health Organisation (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement at the 75th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) that India’s vaccine production and delivery capacity will be used to help all humanity in fighting the COVID-19 crisis.

In a tweet thanking PM Modi for his commitment to humanity, WHO chief wrote, “Thank you for your commitment to solidarity, Prime Minister @narendramodi. Only together by mobilising our forces and resources jointly for the common good, can we end the #COVID19 pandemic.”

At the historic 75th UNGA, PM Modi showed India’s commitment towards battling the pandemic. Offering India’s vaccine production and delivery capacity for the greater good, PM Modi said, “As the largest vaccine producing country of the world, I want to give one more assurance to the global community today, India’s vaccine production and delivery capacity will be used to help all humanity in fighting this crisis.”

He said that India is moving ahead with phase-3 clinical trials in the country and in the neighbourhood. Even during the pandemic, Indian pharmaceutical industry sent essential medicines to over 150 countries, PM Modi said addressing the UNGA.

“India will also help all the countries in enhancing their cold chain and storage capacities for the delivery of Vaccines,” PM Modi said through video conferencing.

PM Modi later tweeted the video on his official twitter handle and wrote, “India will do everything possible to further global good including the battle against COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, India will always fight against terrorism, money laundering, narcotics and trade of illegal weapons.”

PM Modi lauded the achievement of the global body but questioned UN’s handling of the crisis.

He said, “The whole world is fighting the global pandemic of Corona for the last 8-9 months. Where is the United Nations in this joint fight against the pandemic? Where is its effective response?”
