US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had earlier lashed out at the Chinese Communist Party for bullying its neighbors

India is among the countries that China has taken advantage of since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, US Diplomat David Stilwel has said. He said it seems the People’s Republic of China is trying to take advantage of the situation, according to a report in Hindustan Times.

Stiwel, the Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, at a press briefing, said China should follow their commitment to resolve these things through peaceful means and dialogue. He reiterated US Secretary Mike Pompeo’s remarks that the United States is looking for a peaceful resolution to the India-China border crisis.

On the night of August 29 and 30, according to the report, the Indian Army said PLA troops violated the consensus arrived at during military and diplomatic engagements during the ongoing standoff in Eastern Ladakh. The report says that the Chinese carried out provocative military movements to change the status quo.

“For the conflict in the Himalayas, like all things, especially related to PRC’s differences of opinion with its neighbors, we advise them to return to dialogue, resolve these things peacefully without coercion,” the report quoted Stilwel saying. He also highlighted the fact that many conflicts are going on in China’s periphery.

Pompeo had earlier in the press briefing lashed out at the Chinese Communist Party for engaging in a clear and intensifying pattern of bullying its neighbors. He said this is very much evident in the Taiwan Strait, Himalayas and the South China Sea.
