The project will help resolve the water crisis issue in the drought-hit regions of Uttar Pradesh and further strengthen India-Israel relations

Uttar Pradesh and Israel signed an agreement on Bundelkhand water project to resolve the water crisis in the parched land of Bundelkhand on Thursday.

Alok Sinha, UP agriculture production commissioner and Israeli ambassador to India, Ron Malka, signed the agreement here on behalf of their governments, said a report by Hindustan Times.

The project comprises three key components including water conservation, water-efficient transportation, and advanced water practices for agriculture as per the report.

The report quoted Sinha as saying, “We have signed the project on a day when ‘India Day’ is celebrated in Israel. For this project, 28 districts across the country, including two in Uttar Pradesh, have been selected,”

He further said that 25 villages in the Babina block of the Jhansi district had been selected in the first phase.

The agreement has been signed for two years and will be extended later. The report further revealed that the project aims to address the water crisis in drought-hit regions of Bundelkhand. It will help farmers of the region with the latest farming technologies, including drip irrigation, meant for water-deficient regions like Bundelkhand said the report.

The Hindustan Times report quoted Israeli ambassador Malka as saying that this water project is another example of the multifaceted partnership between the two countries and Israel is keen to support India with its cutting edge water technologies.

Israel and India signed two major water agreements in 2017 to increase cooperation in water conservation and state water utility reform in India.
