The donation of 200 ventilators is a sign of the long history of U.S-India collaboration in the health sector.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in coordination with the Government of India and the Indian Red Cross Society, donated the second shipment of 100 new, state-of-the-art ventilators to assist India in the times COVID-19 pandemic.

While announcing the delivery of the ventilators to India, Acting Mission Director Ramona El Hamzaoui had said, “Delivering on President Trump’s commitment to delivering needed supplies to fight Covid-19, USAID has recently shipped 200-high quality American-made ventilators to India. USAID is proud to support this important endeavor, working closely with the government of India and the Indian Red Cross society.”

US Ambassador in India Kenneth Juster said on Twitter,” Fulfilling the U.S. Government’s commitment, @usaid_india delivered the remaining 100 brand-new, Made-in-USA ventilators to @IndianRedCross on behalf of the @MoHFW_INDIA. #AmericaActs”.



The ventilators are manufactured in the US and provide India with flexibility in treating Covid-19 patients. Besides, USAID is also working in close coordination with the Government of India to enhance the capacity of the health facilities using these ventilators by facilitating setup, orientations, and clinical training for health care providers responsible for operating the machines, as per a US Embassy release.

The first shipment of 100 ventilators arrived in India on June 14. The ventilators have been deployed to support the care of COVID-19 patients at the eight regional All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

The donation of 200 ventilators is a sign of the long history of U.S-India collaboration in the health sector.

Deputy Assistant Administrator, Asia Bureau, USAID Javier Piedra said in a video message, “These ventilators are yet another example of the close partnership between the United States and India. In close collaboration with our Indian counterparts, our support will save lives.”

The USAID statement said that as of August 7, a total of 3 million people in India have directly benefited from USAID support.
