India is an “all-weather friend” that has played an important role in the reconstruction and building of democracy in Afghanistan, said Sediq Sediqqi, the spokesperson of the Afghan President.

In an interview with WION tv channel, he said, “It is an all-weather friendship we have enjoyed, especially in the last 20 years when Afghanistan needed a true friend when we started the path of reconstruction and building our democracy.”

Asked about the collaboration of India and Afghanistan amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Sediqqi said that he is grateful for the support his country has received from India. He further revealed that they have received a big number of the 75,000 tonnes of wheat that India promised. Besides, he appreciated the medical support received from India.

Sediqqi pointed out that the Chabahar Zahedan rail project is a game-changer in terms of connectivity. In the past six months, Afghanistan was able to export 6000 metric tonnes of Afghani products to India, Sediq Sidiqqi said.

Talking of India’s role in Afghan’s peace process, Sediqqi was quoted as saying that “India has a very principled policy towards Afghanistan. That is what we expect from India as a friend, to stand with the legitimate government of the people.”
