Nepalese PM K P Sharma Oli’s advisers had tried several times to reach out to the Indian government but without any success

In the midst of on-going boundary dispute and diplomatic impasse between Nepal and India, Nepal is now looking at alternative channels to establish communication with India.

According to The Kathmandu Post, Nepal Foreign Minister, Pradeep Gyawali is busy seeking advice from former ministers, diplomats and experts. He has had a series of meetings in the past few days with the latest one held on August 7 where he discussed the issue with former diplomats, ambassadors and experts.

“Exercises are going on in Kathmandu and New Delhi to open the channels of communication with India, but it will take some time before there are results,” Pradeep Gyawali was quoted as saying by The Kathmandu Post.

Nepal knows that India is an important ally during the times when China is making dubious claims on the territories of other countries. It is reported that not the Foreign Ministry but Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli too has been making efforts to end the deadlock with India.

PM Oli’s advisers had tried several times to reach out to the Indian government but without any success, the report claimed. It further said that now the Nepalese administration is exploring other alternatives to initiate dialogues with India at the earliest.

Amid this, several experts have questioned Nepal’s blueprint to open communication channels with India saying that it might be not that effective, The Kathmandu Post reported.

The otherwise harmonious relationship between India and Nepal suffered a major strain when in June 2020 when the Nepalese Parliament passed a map claiming parts of Indian territory in Uttarakhand as that of the Himalayan country.
