US will continue to support India in its effort to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, says the letter

A strong partnership between the United States and India will impact the trajectory of the 21st century, says a letter written by two American legislators to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

A report by wire service PTI carried by Outlook said the letter written by Chairman of House Foreign Affairs Committee Eliot Engel and Ranking Member Michael T McCaul mentions that a close partnership between two countries holds a more significant place now that India is facing China’s aggression.

The report highlighted an excerpt from the letter which says, “This closer relationship is all the more important as India faces aggression from China along your shared border, which is part of the Chinese government’s consistent pattern of unlawful and belligerent territorial aggression across the Indo-Pacific.”

The letter which was written on August 5 says that the US will continue to support India in its effort to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, the PTI report carried by Outlook further mentioned.

The letter referred to the statement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February this year, when he had said Indo-US ties ''are no longer just another partnership. It is a far greater and closer relationship''.

According to the PTI report, the letter also promised America’s cooperation on counterterrorism measures of India, especially in Jammu & Kashmir while it hailed India’s support in tackling Climate Change.

The legislators in the letter also said that America is looking forward to working with India in order to strengthen their vibrant and consequential relationship, PTI reported.
