Pakistan, almost isolated by the international community, was waiting for the arrival of the incoming president of the United Nations General Assembly on Sunday, but the visit was postponed at the last minute due to some technical flight problems.

Volkan Bozkir, a Turkish diplomat was elected as the president of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly last month and was expected to land in Islamabad on Sunday, reports the New York Times.

While announcing the visit on Saturday, thrilled Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said he would be discussing a range of issues with the visiting dignitary, including the human rights situation in India’s Jammu and Kashmir and unprovoked firing, shelling on border by India.

“I look forward to welcoming you to Pakistan soon for a constructive and fruitful visit,” the elated Pakistan Foreign Minister said in his tweet.

But waters were thrown on Pakistan’s plan after the Turkish diplomat in a Twitter post said: The visit to Pakistan’s capital would have to wait.

Pakistan is keen to see that the Kashmir issue is internationalized with the UN playing a role in resolving it.

Pakistan and India have fought two of their three wars over the disputed region since independence in 1947.
