This move has been adopted following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to become “Vocal for Local” and then further its “Global” initiative

Known largely for working in rural areas and small towns and promote small scale businesses, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has decided to set up in every district a unit for manufacturing N95 masks, ventilators, PPE kits and others for health professionals in the country.

The apex organization which comes under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, has also decided to set up units for the production of sanitizers, liquid hand wash, thermal scanner, agarbatti and soap to meet the growing demands of these products in the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country.

This move has come following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to become “Vocal for Local” and then further its “Global” initiative.

As per the statement issued by the KVIC, to encourage local products, a slew of guidelines have been issued to expedite the implementation of projects under the flagship PMEGP programme.

“As the Prime Minister has said, ‘self-dependence’ is the mantra, easing out the process under PMEGP will further accelerate the growth of local manufacturing. This will ensure maximum employment generation within a short time frame,” KVIC Chairman, Vinai Kumar Saxena said in a statement.
