Increasing people-to-people connections are an integral part of India-Vietnam relations
In a development that is in keeping with India's deepening diplomatic engagement with nations in Southeast Asia, a delegation from Vietnam was on a familiarisation visit to the country earlier this week.

As part of their engagements during the visit from April 7-10, 2024, Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) of India, hosted the delegation headed by Dr. Huynh Thanh Lap, the Chairman of the Vietnam-India Friendship Association, Ho Chi Minh City, on April 10, 2024.

The delegation also visited the Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya (Prime Ministers' Museum) in New Delhi where they were warmly welcomed by Chairman Nripendra Misra and Vice Chairman A Surya Prakash.

Enhancing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

During the meeting, Secretary (East) Mazumdar emphasised the flourishing ties between India and Vietnam, especially since their relationship was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He highlighted the multi-faceted nature of this partnership which includes political exchanges, a growing defence partnership, expanding trade and investment relations, cooperation in energy security, development, culture, and increasing people-to-people connections. Mazumdar praised Vietnam's economic growth, noting its emergence as a significant export and investment destination.

Acknowledgments and Commendations from Vietnam

Dr. Huynh Thanh Lap expressed his gratitude for the hospitality extended by India and lauded the efforts made by both nations to enhance their bilateral relations. He praised India's advancements in defence, scientific research, and information technology, noting these areas as pivotal to strengthening ties. Additionally, Dr. Lap highlighted the cultural exchanges enriching this relationship, with a special mention of the popularity of yoga in Vietnam.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation, reflecting the directives of their respective national leaders. They agreed on the importance of continued engagement and collaboration to foster a deeper understanding and mutual benefit.

This visit not only highlights the strong diplomatic ties between India and Vietnam but also sets the stage for future collaborations, aiming to enhance mutual development and prosperity. The visit underscores the strategic importance of Vietnam in India's Act East Policy and is a testament to the growing friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
