“We remain committed to helping all those Indian nationals in Cambodia who seek our support,” MEA Spokesperson Jaiswal said
India has rescued and repatriated about 250 Indians, of which 75 in just the last three months, Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal said in response to media queries regarding Indians stuck in Cambodia.

“Our Embassy in Cambodia has been promptly responding to complaints from Indian nationals who were lured with employment opportunities to that country but were forced to undertake illegal cyber work,” MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Saturday.

“We remain committed to helping all those Indian nationals in Cambodia who seek our support. We are also working with Cambodian authorities and with agencies in India to crack down on those responsible for these fraudulent schemes,” he said.

“Several advisories have also been issued by the Ministry and the Embassy of India in Cambodia to our nationals about such scams,” the MEA Spokesperson added.

According to media reports, more than 5,000 Indians are trapped in Cambodia where they are being forced to carry out cyber frauds on people in India. It is estimated that the fraudsters have allegedly duped people of at least Rs 500 crore in India over the past six months.

Probe by central agencies has so far revealed that after trapping people in India, agents send them to Cambodia on the pretext of data entry jobs before forcing them to carry out cyber frauds.
