PM Modi highlights time-tested Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India & Russia
In a gesture of diplomatic camaraderie and long-standing bilateral relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has warmly congratulated President Vladimir Putin on his recent re-election as the President of the Russian Federation.

This marks another term for Putin, solidifying his influence over Russian politics and its direction on the global stage. Prime Minister Modi's congratulatory message emphasized the desire to further enhance the "Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership" between India and Russia, a relationship that has withstood the test of time and geopolitical shifts.

"Warm congratulations to H.E. Mr. Vladimir Putin on his re-election as the President of the Russian Federation. Look forward to working together to further strengthen the time-tested Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia in the years to come," Prime Minister Modi posted on social media platform X on Monday (March 18, 2024).

The Russian electoral process concluded earlier this month, with Putin securing an unprecedented fifth term in office. Garnering nearly 90 percent of the vote, according to the Russian poll body, this victory is seen as a record in the post-Soviet political landscape of Russia, notwithstanding criticism about the process from various quarters.

World leaders, including Prime Minister Modi, have extended their congratulations to Putin. China and Belarus have lauded Putin's victory, viewing it as the unwavering support garnered for him among the Russian populace. In contrast, the European Union and the United Kingdom have expressed concerns over the election's integrity, highlighting the shrinking political space and increased violations of civil and political rights in Russia.

Prime Minister Modi's message underlines the anticipation of working together to further the special strategic partnership that India and Russia have nurtured over the years. This partnership, rooted in historical ties and mutual strategic interests, has been prominent in various domains, including defence, nuclear energy, and space exploration.

The re-election of Vladimir Putin presents an opportunity and a challenge for India-Russia relations. Amidst global shifts and the increasing complexity of international relations, both nations are keen on leveraging their partnership to navigate through the evolving geopolitical landscape. India, under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, seeks to balance its strategic interests, aligning with Russia while also engaging with Western powers and its neighbours in Asia.

The collaboration between India and Russia extends beyond bilateral concerns, touching upon critical global issues such as energy security, climate change, and regional stability. As both nations look forward to deepening their strategic partnership, the focus will likely remain on shared interests and mutual respect for sovereignty and development aspirations.

As President Putin begins another term, the global community observes with keen interest, while India solidifies its position as a key strategic ally. Amidst challenges and opportunities, the India-Russia relationship mirrors the power of diplomacy and shared strategic interests in shaping global affairs.
