India has called for safe and timely delivery of humanitarian aid and assistance in Gaza
India has expressed deep shock at the loss of lives in Northern Gaza after more than 100 people were killed on Thursday during delivery of humanitarian assistance.

“We are deeply shocked at the loss of lives in Northern Gaza during delivery of humanitarian assistance (on Thursday)” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Friday.

At least 112 people were killed and more than 280 wounded when Palestinians gathered around aid trucks for food near Gaza City.

“Such loss of civilian lives and the larger humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to be a cause for extreme concern. We reiterate our call for safe and timely delivery of humanitarian aid and assistance,” the MEA said.

India has reiterated its call for safe and timely delivery of humanitarian aid and assistance.

The Israeli military quoted by Reuters said the trucks were operated by private contractors as part of an aid operation that it had been overseeing for the past four nights.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed strong condemnation for the devastating incident at Gaza.

“The desperate civilians in Gaza need urgent help, including those in the besieged north where the United Nations has not been able to deliver aid in more than a week,”  Stephane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the UN Chief, said.

The UN has called for a thorough investigation into the tragic event.
