British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott
“The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are, have been and shall always remain an integral part of India,” the MEA said.
India has taken a strong objection to Islamabad-based British High Commissioner Jane Marriott’s recent visit to Mirpur, a Pakistan-occupied Kashmir along with a UK Foreign Office official, saying “such infringement of India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is unacceptable.”
India has taken “serious note of the highly objectionable visit of the British High Commissioner in Islamabad, along with a UK Foreign Office official, to Pakistan occupied Kashmir on January 10,” the Ministry of External Affairs said.
Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra has lodged a “strong protest” with the British High Commissioner in India on this “infringement,” the MEA added.
After her visit to Mirpur, British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott posted a text on X stating, “Salaam from Mirpur, the heart of the UK and Pakistan’s people to people ties!70% of British Pakistani roots are from Mirpur, making our work together crucial for diaspora interests. Thank you for your hospitality.”
“The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are, have been and shall always remain an integral part of India,” the MEA said.
In September 2023, India had voiced similar protest when US Ambassador to Islamabad, Donald Blome paid a visit to Gilgit and Baltistan, an area in the Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
The US Embassy in Islamabad had then said the purpose of his visit was to “explore opportunities for strengthening the region’s climate resilience.” This was the second time in two years that Donald Blome had visited the region.
