Three Indian airports have also received the inaugural award for best hygiene measures

Eight airports in India figure in the list of 28 from the Asia Pacific region that have received the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) awards for 2020.

ASQ is a global airport survey based on measuring passengers’ satisfaction while they are at a particular airport.

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport and Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport have been selected for the best airport award under the category of over 40 million passengers per year.

Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport has been awarded under the 25-40 million passengers per year category. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad is among the Asia Pacific region's awardees in the 15-25 million passengers per year category.

While Cochin International Airport has been awarded in the 5-15 million passengers per year category, ACI announced three winners from India for the Air Service Quality awards 2020 in the 2-5 million passengers category.

These are the Chandigarh Airport, Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Babatpur (near Varanasi), and the Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport in Amritsar.

This time, ACI introduced a new award for ‘Best Hygiene Measures by Region’ in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three of the seven inaugural ‘Best Hygiene Measures’ winners in the Asia-Pacific are from India.

These are the Chandigarh Airport, Pune Airport and the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.

Airports Council International said that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a dramatic impact on global passenger traffic in 2020 as well as changing customer perceptions and expectations of the airport experience.

"Even as our members battled the debilitating impact of the virus throughout 2020, airports in different size categories in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East maintained their focus on the customer and their evolving needs,” said ACI Asia-Pacific Director General Stefano Baronci.

“We congratulate our airport members for this high accolade which sets the stage for a recovery that puts the traveller first.”

According to ACI, the annual Air Service Quality awards "represent the highest possible accolades for airport operators and are an opportunity to celebrate the commitment of airports worldwide to continuously improving the passenger experience".
