The 14 Indian nationals were under detention in Sana’a for over nine months

Fourteen Indian nationals who were under long detention in Sana'a were released on Saturday. The Indian embassy in Djibouti is in touch with them and is making arrangements for their safe return to their motherland.

“The 14 Indian nationals who were under long detention in Sana'a have been released today. The Embassy had been in constant contact with them. Our local Embassy official in Sana'a is making arrangements for their safe return to India,” the Indian embassy in Djibouti said in a tweet.


The 14 Indian nationals were under detention in Sana’a for over nine months. There were repeated appeals from the families of the detainees through the media and through social media to help with the release of these seamen.

After their release, the Indian embassy in Oman thanked the government of Oman for its continuous efforts.

“We also appreciate the efforts of Omani authorities and thank the Government of Oman for its continuous support,” the Indian embassy in Oman said in a tweet.

The 14 Indian nationals, all seamen, are from the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
