Jaishankar arrived in Abu Dhabi on the second leg of his six-day three-nation visit

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday called on Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and held discussions on the advancement of strategic cooperation between India and the UAE in the post-COVID era.

“The EAM called on the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and conveyed greetings from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and his appreciation of the UAE leadership for taking great care of Indians during the Covid-19 pandemic. They also discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

“Was so nice to meet FM @ABZayed again. Took stock of our growing cooperation. Discussed further opportunities to work together in a changing world. Experiences from the COVID era hold lessons for both of us. Thank him for his gracious hospitality,” Jaishankar said in a tweet.


Jaishankar, who was on a two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates on November 25-26, also met with his counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The two leaders held discussions on the entire range of bilateral issues including dealing with the pandemic, both on the health and economic front.

“Both sides reviewed their cooperation on various facets of their comprehensive strategic partnership including trade, investment, infrastructure, energy, food security, and defence. The EAM and the UAE Foreign Minister discussed recent regional and international developments and agreed to continue coordination on various multilateral issues,” the MEA statement said.

The EAM also virtually met the representatives of the Indian community associations in Abu Dhabi and appreciated the work of the Indian associations in taking care of the community during the Covid pandemic. He assured them of the Government’s responsiveness on issues pertaining to post-Covid normalcy.

“Welcomed the interaction with members of the Indian community in Abu Dhabi. Appreciated their stepping forward to work with the Embassy @IndembAbuDhabi to meet the COVID challenge. Assured them of the Government's responsiveness on issues pertaining to post-COVID normalcy,” the EAM said in a tweet.

Jaishankar arrived in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday night on the second leg of his six-day three-nation visit to Bahrain, the UAE, and Seychelles, which began on Tuesday. The visit is seen as important as it comes amid the coronavirus pandemic.
