The recovery rate is also increasing with each day hinting at a downward trend of COVID-19 in India

As the daily average of new COVID-19 cases has seen a decline, the time taken for the cases of infection to double has also increased three times - from 25 days to almost 73 days. Amid this, new recoveries continue to surpass the new reported cases.

The data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare suggests that the doubling time of infections in mid-August was around 25.5 days which has increased to 72.8 days in mid-October.

According to the data, the doubling time as recorded on August 16 was 26.3 days which increased to 32.5 days on September 6. The time further increased to 46.7 days on 27 September and on October 15, it was recorded at 72.8 days.

The ministry in a statement said, “This is the result of collaborative action by States/UTs under the Centre's strategy of comprehensive and high countrywide testing, prompt and effective surveillance and tracking, quick hospitalization and effective adherence of the Standard Treatment Protocol issued by the Union Government. This is also the combined outcome of the selfless service and dedication of doctors, paramedics, frontline workers and all other COVID-19 warriors.”

Apart from that, the recovery rate is also increasing with each day hinting on the downward trend of COVID-19 in India. In the past 24 hours, around 81, 514 recoveries taking the total number of recovered cases to 63, 83, 441. With this, the recovery rate was reported at 87.36 per cent.

The maximum number of recoveries were reported from the states and union territories of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi and Odisha.

Maharashtra reported 19,517 recoveries followed by 8,662 of Karnataka and 7,792 of Kerala. Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh each reported over 5,000 recoveries. Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal reported over 3,000 recoveries each followed by over 2,000 recoveries of Delhi and Odisha each.

With this, the active cases remained under 9 lakh and stood at 8,12,390 in a row for a week. India reported 67,708 new cases and 680 deaths in the past 24 hours. Maharashtra reported over 10,000 new cases and 158 deaths, the highest across India.

Karnataka also reported over 9,000 cases and 75 deaths followed by 6224 cases and 20 deaths of Kerala. Madhya Pradesh reported over 5,000 and Tamil Nadu reported over 4,000 cases. The states reported 15 and 52 deaths respectively.

The country has reported 73,07,097 cases so far out of which 1,11,266 people have lost their lives.
